North Shore Steamers A 7 Boston Irish Wolfhounds Dinos 48
Sept. 7 2002

In the first league match for North Shore against a formidable Dinos side,
the result was a lopsided score and clear need for improvement in many areas
of play.

The first 20 minutes were a good indicator that NSRFC's level of play has
risen, with a 0-0 score and strong play on both sides of the ball.
Containing their back line and limiting the amount of rolling and driving
mauls kept things level for that first 20 minutes.

A series of breakdowns by NS and opportune decision making by the Dinos
resulted in many scores, showing the value of experience and execution in
game play. The Dino forwards produced clean ball, and the back line passed
and spaced themselves well, taking advantage of overloads and getting the
ball down the line.

A positive note was that in the last 10-15 minutes NS carried the play and
this resulted in good pressure that eventually led to a score by Wes Darwin.
The fact that we did not hang our heads was a testament to our work ethic,
which we need to carry through the season.

There were many positives to build on from the game: Cam's consistent
jumping and possession in line outs, hard play in the loose by the forwards,
getting to rucks/mauls and winning MANY more of them than last time we
played the Dinos, better overall defending of back switches and looping,
and last but not least, a learning experience disguised as a whoopin'. We
need to remember that we win as a team and lose as a team, so
finger-pointing and such during the game is pointless. It's hard to stay
positive in a game like yesterday, but we just have to learn from it and
take the frustration out on our next opponent.

North Shore Steamers B vs Wentworth A

A great sign for NSRFC - a full B-side! It seems like it was only yesterday
when we had 16 guys at every game.

The Steamer B's carried the play from the outset, with Eric Cushing
delivering the ball to hard running centers Keith River and Dan
Hemmerly-Brown. Consistently the ball made it down the line and this
resulted in many advances downfield. Aaron "Biggie" Bigmore stepped in at
fullback, and started many counter-attacks.

The pack was getting to rucks and producing the ball, which led to many
breaks for our backs. Trevor Mazarura took advantage of the space out on the
wing for at least two scores and some spectacular runs. Also scoring were
Dan Hemmerly-Brown, Sammy Benson (good to have ya back!), Wes Darwin, Chris
LeBlanc, Rob Moran and I believe Bret Picolo and possibly Keith River? (If
you remember, let me know)

A couple players got their first games under their belts, including Kevin,
Dan HB, and Keith, and many people tried out new positions. Overall the
bright spot on an otherwise gloomy day for NSRFC.

Lineup-correct me if I am wrong.
