NSRFC 27 Dinos 12
After two previous drubbings at the hands of the Dino's-wolfhounds C's, NSRFC stepped loudly from out of it's shadow today with a powerful statement win...
After travel snafu's had caused the starting lineup to be jumbled, North Shore established itself with early momentum as Rich DePiero kicked a penalty goal to spot NS to a three point lead...
the combination of strong forward play and speedy backline handling found Trevor streaking down the wing and under the posts for a well earned team try and conversion...
NSRFC's DePiero added another penalty goal and after several strong defensive stands denied the wolfhounds any points blanking them for the first 40 minutes, 13 - nil!
The second half seemed a different game as the Dino's brought on a bevy of new players, attempting to reverse the overwhelming play of NS...
the wolfhounds scored and converted bringing the score to 13-7, amidst some thunderous tackling and up/down the field breaks the next 15 minutes saw both teams come close with chances...
with @ ten minutes to play the wolfhounds punched a score in the corner but failed to convert, score NSRFC 13, Dino's 12...
With the match now open for grabs, the North Shore Men seized the day as team Capt. Martin Mahoney picked up a loose ball and broke outside to setup the streaking Maz for his second Try under the posts, converted DePiero, NSRFC 20 - Dino'd 12...
The grand finale followed as Captain Martin once again snatched a loose ball, broke to the sidelines and setup the other jetrocket wingman Chad for the final score of the day! NSRF 27 - Dino's 12
There were many outstanding players for NSRFC this day! Reade and Tony played lineout catch all day as the purple terror gave quality ball to his team all day!
Dan Forsythe, Reade Morrison, and Mike Magee(Damian), Ken Spinale, Kevin Donovan/ Mark Swan, Matt Tebo, Tony Buonagurio, and Jesse Dole all played smashmouth with the Dino forwards, earning a begrudging respect and establishing parity against a renown veteran side. Thanks to our Senior Tighthead D Forsythe who played brilliantly leading the pack!
Matt Willey did a fine job directing traffic and getting out ball to the most excellent NSRFC backline!
Rich DePiero to Martin Mahoney to Keith Rivers/J Brewer to wings Trevor Maz and Chad Horn and Scott Marcoullier at FB...
The backline was outstanding with major contributions comming from everyone...
Scott Marcoullier who made several key stops and kicks, and added counterattacks that kept NS from folding when under great pressure...
Martin made key plays that turned into points as he demonstrated the perfect two on one drill....
Rich was dead on kicking and had several well executed tackles...
Ken Spinale was "Man of the Match" as he returned to his old haunt at #4.... Swanny dropped their bigman hard with a picture tackle! Reade, Tebo, Tony and Dole were viscious
The hard, clean sportsmanship of NSRFC was indeed splendid to view and highly rewarding, as vindication was earned for this grand NSRFC club! These are just a few snapshots from an aging observer who undoubtedly missed many highlights but hopes to have captured the gist of an historic win!
Congratulations to Team Captain Martin Mahoney, Coach Des, and the entire club! Let's keep on winning!
Thanks to Gustavo for NSRFC!
