Mad River 19
North Shore 12
We traveled up to Vermont with decent numbers but as expected, missing a few
key players. We did have a much stronger lineup than our prior visit in the
spring when Mad River put a bunch of points on us. The weather was extremely
wet and this caused the game to be fairly slow and sloppy. We allowed ugly tries
off Mad River forward phases and dug ourselves a two-try hole. However, we got
tries back from Chris Mroz and Trevor Maz and had the game tied at 12 in the
second half. North Shore alum Zack Cook was playing fullback for the home team
and ran around our defensive line to punch in the winning try. We pressured
and came up empty in trying to get another score.

Boston Irish C 62
North Shore 0
We came into this game with a somewhat makeshift lineup, carrying a lot of injuries
but still sending out a strong lineup. It turned out that the Wolfhounds C team
was very strong in back and forward play and kept most of the posession in the
game and scored a bunch of tries. We had what appeared to be the first try of
the game but it was called out of bounds. We didn't get many more scoring chances
as we were pinned down for long periods. Overall just an ugly effort by us,
and showed how strong the level of competition is in D3. (opinions about side
selection notwithstanding)

Portland 35
North Shore 0 (or thereabouts)
Having played Portland earlier in the season, we had a decent idea of their
strengths, mauling and driving/phasing. They still managed to do that, in addition
to stealing pretty much all our lineout ball (really showing the value of the
Reade to Tony lineout combo) and generally maintaining a lot of posession. The
ball we obtained in the loose or from the few scrums we won, we didn't do much
with. We had a few attacks into their 22, and some good runs in the middle of
the pitch, but no sustained pressure. Our captain Matt Thibault was lost with
a serious knee injury and he had been the main impact player for us that day
(and many other days).
We never quit and fought to keep the score from being a true blowout, but were
unable to put any points on the board ourselves. Every North Shore player who
was there that day will surely remember how they felt and use it as motivation
to work even harder for next year.
