North Shore RFC posted another victory on Saturday, defeating a feisty but inexperienced New London side by the score of 29-5. The majority of the scoring took place in the first half, with North Shore getting tries from Jesse Dole, Rich DePiero, Matt Thibault, and Chad Horn as well as one conversion from DePiero. The running was strong in the forwards and backs, with Tony, TBo and Kenny sticking out in my foggy memory as well as some skinny guy doing an impression of Martin, Matt Willey and Ross Arnold. There was some excellent rucking and ball control displayed by North Shore, as they moved down the field methodically with some long runs interspersed. Scrum half Andy Kerr directed the troops for most of the game (and made a heady run to within a few feet of the try zone) settling the rucks and shipping the ball to Morgan Rigby and the backs. In the second half Gus del Puerto took the reigns at scrum half, with Dan Donato, Kendall Smith and Liam Brady also seeing game action. Some hard running and timely kicking allowed North Shore to control the run of play for the first half and much of the second. New London did put a lot of pressure on in the second half, with a try and another ball held up in the try zone. They battled throughout the game and were a much improved side from a year ago. When we finally got out of our end of the field, there was more attacking play from North Shore. Martin Mahoney received a feed from Chad Horn with under a minute left and touched down for the game's final try, and DePiero converted for a 29-5 final. Game notes: Chad Horn had a bear of a game, with a try and several momentum-killing tackles; Kendall Smith got his first taste of A-side propping and was solid in the scrums; Rich DePiero was a force in the kicking game, although he's not too happy about all these corner-flag tries...; Most of the pack was in support and cycling the ball all day, a beautiful thing; The drink-up was a good time, but how did it take that rookie so long to figure out the spoon game?
