Our Match Report

Saturday the 26th was certainly made for rugby, wet, cold, and playing at the venerable GEAA field. Where two evenly matched teams that will contend for the top of the division coming this fall came to rumble, North Shore and the Maccabis. With the playing conditions as they were, we were aware that the match would be defined by the forwards. NS received to start and executed their first few plays very well before a knock on was committed and the Maccabis received possession deep in NS territory. With the referees' quick whistle and Maccabis good sized team able to crash over and over, they ended up scoring within the first few minutes. When the Maccabis received the ball again it became down right apparent after the first scrum that this was anyone's game as NS repeatedly overpowered the larger Maccabis with their skill and pack cohesiveness. Offensively, NS did a great job with forward's crashing and then having the ability to spread the ball a bit with a number of drives by Mahoney. Continuous crashes by Mike Johnson and Ox allowed for space to open up a bit past Mahoney and NS was able to get the ball out to Jonah, Sully, and Garrett a couple of times during the first period. Defensively, Ian Nichols, Ben Comeau, and utility player Jake Levenstein out on the wing made some great tackles. Long, Wilkinson, and Scuderi made great defensive stops flying around the field like the loosey's they are and were there to oppose every ruck. Cam and Hartigan continually pressured their opposites and made great heads up decisions despite the ball being so slippery. NS was able to sneak in a try during the first period and at the end, the Maccabis were up by just a couple points after going for points when they were nearing the try zone after a penalty on NS was called. The cast of characters was completely switched up for the 2nd period and newbies Tom Macrae and Pedulla played very well at their respective positions. Tom Moore came in to do his thing in the second row, Anthony and Scott held the front row steady during the 2nd as well. Again for 3rd period there were quite a few changes to the lineup but we were still able to get Jonah in the try zone and only gave up a couple more tries to the bad guys. NSRFC played well; I predict a NS win in the fall against these foes.

Upshore!
