With a trip up to Amesbury to New England Sports Park the boys were ready for a bit of redemption against a New London side that had got the best of them at their last two meetings.
The boys started fast out of the blocks, with some sustained pressure on the New London try line. Zack scurried over from short range to get the first points of the day. This was dully converted by Sullivan to make it 7 nil. The men in red retained the rage and peppered the New London defence inside our attacking 22. This forced the New London forwards to be penalised for infringing in the ruck. The boys were intent on keeping the score board ticking over and went for the sticks right out in front. Sullivan stepped up and slotted it to make the score 10 nil.
After the kickoff New London forced the men in red into error and scored their first try against the run of play to make it 10-5. Sullivan got another attempt at a shot at goal and put the reds up 13-5. Before half time New London put on two more quick tries to take the lead and go to the sheds 15-13.
After the break the reds showed the fire in there belly by taking it to the line aggressively. The forwards started to get well on top of their opposition. The poaching players from the opposition were getting blown away at the rucks by the piggies and this was setting up clean ball for the backs. A great sight to see was when Jeb was put away on outside from mid field. This was a good creation of space due to the quick catch and passing that was on show.
Each team traded some more tries for the score to be 27-25 in favour of North Shore to set up a grand stand finish.
The play that broke the back of New London came from tireless No.8 Tim Wilkinson. The ball had been kicked out over the sideline near the half way line by the men in red. New London were eager to get the ball back in play as quickly as possible. Tim sniffed an opportunity and as the ball was thrown in from a quick lineout he intercepted the ball and raced away. He showed a good turn of speed (even if he had a look over his shoulder to the ref to see if the play was legitimate) to get over the try line. The New London players heads went down in despair.
The boys came home with a wet sail and put the finishing touches on a great performance. Barrett first showed is determination like a rampaging bull from a 5m tap play. And then in the final play of the game the boys put on a sweeping move that went through multiple hands to put Captain Hartigan over to put the icing on the cake.
Final Score: 46-25
Taking out 3rd place in the division.
Try Scores: Zach, Sam, Sully, Jebb, Wilkinson, Barrett, Hartigan
MOTM: Tim Wilkinson
Tim was involved all over the park today. His ability in the air off the lineout's and kickoffs can't be matched. Today he showed a new level of mongrel that all great No.8's have. With the aggression he is also blessed with a great set of hands that most backs would be very happy with.
