NERFU Championship vs. Maccabis
RESULT North Shore 5–
April 21, 2018, 2:00pm @ Marvel Field, Providence, RI
Referee's Official Match Report
This was a surprisingly one-sided affair. Maccabi dominated all facets of the game. Their #15 was dangerous whenever he entered the back line, #1 was a terror on cash ball, and #14 was unstoppable. North Shore really had no answers, although they gamely kept at it until the final whistle. A hard-worked multi-phase pick and go try was their only consolation on a tough afternoon. Both teams demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout, and the weather was positively spring-like for once.

Our Match Report
This past Saturday, North Shore RFC headed down to providence, RI for the long awaited playoff match against the Boston Maccabi's. Coming off of one of the strongest fall seasons the club has had, North Shore showed up with strong numbers, ready for a battle.
From the first whistle the Maccabis were able to pin the reds in their defensive end, and scored early. With a seemingly never ending amount of phases on the defensive side of the ball, the reds were making great tackles, however the Maccabis ability to retain possession, along with their quick back line allowed them to consistently create overloads and find space on the fringes. The North Shore set pieces remained strong which created a few scoring opportunities in the first half, but unfortunately they were not able to capitalize. Going into the half The Red's found themselves down 31-0.
In the second half North Shore was able maintain some more possession, and started to find some rhythm on offense. Eventually working there way to the Maccabi's try line and dotting down the lone North Shore try on the day. However, defensively in the second half there was more of the same, and the Maccabi's were able to score 6 more tries, with a final score of 61-5.
Overall a frustrating game for North Shore, but it was not due to a lack of effort. Despite the scoreline, the reds continued to put in 100% effort, and played the game in good spirit up until the last minute.
Man of the match went to Ben Comeau for some exceptional tackling throughout the match, and an honorable mention to Arif Taruz for his hard running which continually broke the gain line.
Looking forward, the red's will look to get back to their winning ways as there is still plenty of good rugby to be played this spring. This weekend the Red's travel down to face Providence Rugby Club for 3rd place in NERFU! The following weekend (5/5) is the annual NERFU Cup, which will present an opportunity to add another trophy to the collection, and always proves to be one of the best rugby trips of the year.
