Referee's Official Match Report

Warm sunny 70 deg day. Freedom ask to play game under protest due to unsafe field. The Field was in tough shape (short & lining was unclear) back and forth rugby in the 1st half ending the half 28-10 with some missed tackles from Freedom. North Shore kept the scoring going in 2nd half. Final 59-15. Game was played in good spirit.

Our Match Report

When North Shore arrived at their beautiful pitch they were surprised by mother nature. After a week of rain and grey skies, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day, and uncharacteristic 70 and sunny in late September. The rains the previous week and a couple of women's games made the conditions quite muddy. North Shore arrived with a full panel plus some. Old Gold arrived with a few less but had a sizable pack and a back line that North Shore had seen many times before. As the game started the Reds came out a bit flat, resulting in several offsides penalties which gave Old Gold a real advantage to start the game. However, North Shore's strong tackling, strong set pieces (shout out to our tiny front row who pounded on a much much bigger Old Gold pack) and spirit left the game scoreless until the 20 minute mark when Old Gold was able to sneak through the Red defense and dot down the first try of the game. The Reds responded, cleaning up play in the breakdown and holding possession of the ball. In the next 7 minutes the Reds were able to find the try zone twice, once coming from a big break by Timmy with a great offload to Macrae to finish the play and the other coming on a broken tackle by Jeb. The Reds went into half time up 12-5.

Timmy "Golden Foot" Wilkinson hit a penalty kick at the 50th minute followed by a quick try off of the kickoff from Jeb giving the Reds a comfortable lead. Second half impact players came in shortly after including the menacing second half beast Sama, Karim, Jeff and Ox. The Reds put the foot on the pedal looking for that bonus point and they were able to take advantage of some strong second half subs and their great handling to get Sully and Felde into the try zone. The Reds finished the game off with a long break by Felde who selflessly gave the supporting Ox a beautiful try. Final score, 46-12.

The North Shore Blues who had been chomping at the bit for a real B-side match got to test themselves against a combined Old Gold/Merrimack College 12-man side. Some older faces such as Chad, Nico and Tebow graced the field and taught some youngsters how to play the game. The Blues came out strong winning all of their set pieces, making huge runs and just showing off.
