NSRFC Wins Home opener vs Rutland VT RFC
For the 2nd week in a row the North Shore Steamers have rolled to
consecutive victories! The visiting Rutland ruggers
travelled 4 hours to make history as the Steamers first ever home opponent...
After a splendid field committee performance (goose sh*t), the new pitch was christened as goal posts were raised ...
Creating opportunity for the 2nd week in a row, flanker Chris
LeBlanc rushed in front of an attempted "kick to touch" batting it
into the try zone and pouncing on it for a momentus try that staked NS to an
early lead... R. Di Piero converted 7 - 0... Flyhalf
Rich Di Piero playing his 2nd ever match once again demonstrated efficiency
feeding the ball out to the bullish Mark Swan and scrambling Sammy Benson
while also tactically kicking for field postion when needed... Rich's hard
effort was rewarded as he broke thru in close for his first career try, he
then converted and NS was up 14 - 0...
In the 2nd half Rutland broke the Steamers shutout stretch but missed the
conversion, score 14 - 5.... after much spirited play the
referee (coach Dan) blew the final whistle ending the historic first home
match...
Other game highlights include Todd's early pickup of a
loose ball and slashing run that help setup the first scoring opportunity...
Both Cam & Chris also were in Rutland's face spoiling
possession and wreaking havoc... Yes, that was Pat Riley
experiencing the dreaded frontrow lift in his first match at
prop (elevator, going up!)... old man McKenzie continues to
perform like one of TR's rough riders... Continued yeomans' efforts from
Ken & Tom at 2nd row... Newguy Jesse proving
that he has the hardheaded attitude to play frontrow... Gus
had another steady game getting the ball where it needed to go...
The drinkup was held at Oneil's pub,(thankyou Sammy) and Rutland was well
hosted... we are obligated to return the trip and travel there... (summer
camping trip?)
