NSRFC 29 Seacoast 0
Hosting a less than full strength Seacoast side, North Shore RFC got
the job done with some strong play throughout the first XV and showed
our ability to take advantage of opponents' weaknesses.
Some highlights of the match included Rich DePiero kicking and
chasing more than half the field for a try, Mark Swan busting through
some would-be tacklers at the try line for his first score of the
season, Trevor Maz showing his explosiveness with two more tries, and
Matt Willey touching down for a try and having a solid game at scrum
half.
The North Shore forwards dominated in the rucks as multiple phases
carried the home side downfield on many occasions and released the
backs for some of their trademark ground-gaining bursts. Scott
Marcoulier, Jesse Brewer, Martin Mahoney and Chad Horn all delivered
audible tackles when Seacoast's backs made breaks.
Jeff West and Danny Forsythe anchored the scrums for North Shore,
while also providing standout play in the loose. There were some
outstanding individual plays, including T-Bo gaining a good 50 meters
before dishing the ball off, a near-try by Scotty M after barreling
deep into Seacoast territory, Chad Horn singlehandedly tracking down
an opposing back, tying him up and taking the ball off him, and Cappy
Mahoney spinning and lifting a Seacoast playing off his feet to
expose the ball.
Kenny Spinale and "The Swan" had big games in the loose, and kept the
opposing forwards in check. I'm sure there were many other people who
stood out and I am just not remembering.
Second half subs included at least El Presidente, Dan Donato, Mike
Magee, Liam Brady.. and they seamlessly maintained the level of play.
Note - This was NSRFC's first full-game win over Seacoast. We kinda
sorta beat them in a late summer game/scrimmage a while back.
